Alanis Morissette No Avalon Jagged Little Pill (Demos) Lyrics: I’m just a white girl From a small, safe town What could I possibly know about destruction? My lawn sure looks green today Underneath these suburban skies But the little boy next door Wants to be the Lord of the Flies It’s like Cain and Able and the holy sacrifice And I have to believe that God has closed his eyes And if there is no Avalon and we only have one life It’s hard to conceive why we let our brothers die My bed is so safe here And my rose-colored glasses, they’re broken And how the truth leaks in And I, I can’t imagine I saw it on the news tonight That they’d announce his name I saw the blood on his hands And they told me to look away I tell ya it’s like Cain and Able and the holy sacrifice And I have to believe that God has closed his eyes And if there is no Avalon and we only have one life It’s hard to conceive why we let our sisters die Why, why? Why? It’s a confusing civilization, darling I tell ya It’s like Cain and Able and the holy sacrifice And I have to believe that God has closed his eyes And if there is no Avalon and we only have one life It’s hard to conceive why we let our people die We let ‘em die And watch them die

This is one of the most amazing song I’ve ever heard. She should have used it. I mean why shelf something so beaufiful? Hopefully someday she’ll release it, but I doubt it since it & sevral other outtakes from JLP & SFIJ have leaked.

Un-freaking-believeable. This is a masterpiece! Why didn’t she use this for JLP?

Where did you find this??? Ive been a fan of alanis for 17 years now and I thought I had everything, EVEN all the JLP demos (superstar wonderful weirdos etc)! haha. Wow! I had never heard this before.

When I discovered this song, just recently, I couldn’t stop playing it while laying on the floor, singing, crying. The way she transfers her emotions to her audience with that beautiful vocal expression has always been amazing, but this was beyond that….An uncanny but beautiful experience it was. This song hit me hard!

Are you kidding me? This is an amazing song with a powerful meaning pushed through the lyrics and orchestra. This is some of her best work!

I know I posted this song, but I’m not sure what is it about exactly.. I mean, I understand the lyrics and all, but is there more to it maybe..? Can somebody explain it to me, please… Thanks 4 fillin me in!

this is my opinion – i think jagged little pill is perfect the way it is and with all the respect to this song
this is not a song that’s suitable for JLP…
26. October 2009 at 10:05 am
okay I agree the song would not fit in JLP very well, but it could fit into something. Atleast just be a single or something.
26. October 2009 at 5:56 pm
you know quite honestly all of you people who sit here whining about how she should put this all on an album…. just stay hoping bc its not going to happen unless you show her we want it to happen
start writing letters, sending emails, and getting something done. NOTHING will happen if you dont TRY. (even tho chances r nothing will happen anyway..)

My POV is that at the time of writing this song, Alanis felt that we were hurting ourselves by hurting other people… The same message she portrayed then is really the same today. When someone’s hurting, most of us make a media circus from their pain or just completely look the other way.

Avalon doesn’t exist at all…delusion for all the wrong people met on our path…
18. December 2009 at 9:43 pm
I believe (this is only a theory) that she lost someone she loves and so as she continued to grief over it she had a lot of time to think, and she came up with all this. Just a theoretical probability, but hey-atleast I tried. =)

i think it’s kind of like the same subject as Superstar Wonderful Weirdoes, and people suffering in the world.

I think this is a song about war and being from America while other people have to fight daily for their lives in other parts of the world.

i love it so much!!!!!
